This was supposed to be a blog about the fantastic sightings lately of groups of Humpback Whales seen passing through the Gulf of the Farallones Marine Sanctuary. On the way to that blog something special happened - Google’s Blogger Team selected Sea Worthy as its’ “Blog of Note” for June 4, 2008. By the end of the day 4,529 people from 101 countries had viewed the blog! It was a good day.
I found out because my email was full of messages that comments to the blog were coming in. It was great fun reading kind remarks from people all over the world and then having a look at their blogs too.
To each of you who took the time to comment and congratulate, I sincerely thank you. If you weren’t so scattered all over the map I’d schedule a special SF Bay Whale Watching trip for all of you!
Verne Bryant, owner of SF Bay Whale Watching always says that it is a privilege to see the whales. He also says that the people who come aboard our trips are always interesting, and spending time with them is especially rewarding.
I’ll add that the combination of the whales and birds, etc, the natural beauty of the marine sanctuary, and these interesting people toting cameras makes for blog-heaven.
The photos here are some of my favorites from past trips: Humpback Whales - acrobatic, agile giants; California and Steller Sea Lions - each face so different and expressive.
Brown Pelicans - prehistoric-looking plunge divers, formation fliers with wings 6.5 feet across; Risso's Dolphins - cross-hatched with scars from tussles with squid.
Lucky for you that I didn’t include hundreds of pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge (cables/railings/rivets/south view/north view/from atop a tower/from underneath/with fog/without fog...I've got 'em all!)
Thank you to Blogger for providing this free platform and for the recognition. The power of the internet always intrigues me but never so much as last Wednesday when the world came to look at our whales.

Cheers!

I`m a wannabe sailoress with a great blog but cos I swear too much in my posts I think I`m doomed for a life of blogiocrity.
Congratulations and lovely pics. Hey, check out Hermanus in Soth Africa for info about other great whale watching experiences. The season there is June to November although they arrived early this year. I will be visiting Hermanus this coming August and will try to get some pics but my whale pics are always crap, probably because it`s difficult to take a good photo whilst holding a wine glass.
;)
Wow blog of notes section great job on that!. I would never of thought there would be a blog dedicated to whale watching of all things but its so interesting to read.
Fabulous photos!
animals are not here for your entertainment
Amazing photos! I love all of it, the whales, sea lions, seals, etc. Makes me long to visit California again. We don't have those critters here in Texas. :o)
please post high resolution photographs...i'd like to save some of these as screensavers.
We went whale watching in Dominica last year and it was fantastic. Your pictures are great - well done!
Amazing pics! In addition to appreciating the pics and the great info about whales, it would be nice if people start realizing the importance of sea life and not just its beauty! It is equally important in the 'Circle of life' but still, how utterly callous and indifferent we as the human race seem to be to the other species on earth, on land as well as in water. I recently saw a documentary on shark fishing. It seems there is a ban on whaling but not on shark fishing. I was horrified and appalled at the human race's greed and indifference to its co-inhabitants on planet earth. Lets all not just sit on our couches and just appreciate the beauty of these wonderful creatures. But do our bit to save them and ensure planet earth does not become a garbage dump for humanity!
just loved those images..
so natural so beautiful water..
really wonderful
I am probably the millionth person to mention this, but your photos are fantastic. The depth and clarity is inspiring. I hope to be able to experiance that one day.

Wow... amazing pictures... what a great time you had! I loved the sea lions, they are very expressive and adorable. I am now getting into photography and just love your shots. May I ask what camera you used for these great pictures?
Thanks,
Tina
Congrats on becoming a blog of note. Your pics are amazing..they make me want to take a tour next time I'm in San Francisco.
Definitely love these photographs - with or without the GGB!
I already have a few 'misted pics' of that bridge in my own collection, but I have only sighted a whale once and was too far away and cameraless to record the event!
Very interesting blog! Saw it through the "Blog of Note" link on Blogger. I found it especially interesting because I read this article from National Geographic News earlier today (although you've possibly already seen it): http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/06/080606-humpbacks.html
So much of this can be attributed to people like you, who spend a lot of their valuable time building awareness (directly or indirectly) for conservation efforts. Thanks all the way from Milwaukee!
Amazing pics - what a blessed job you have getting to see all these beautiful things everyday! If I ever get to SF I will be sure to go on a trip with you!
Although I live in NY, I was born in the Pacific Coast. So these beautiful, haunting images are close to my heart. Thank you.
Beautiful blog--we used to live in San Francisco and would drive up to Mendocino and stop and watch the whales from the coast. Makes me miss that coast more than I already do!
Your photos are stunning!
I love your pictures! Very nice! Congrats on the Blog of Note
Those are some BEAUTIFUL pictures
Incredible place that You’ve created here. The Blogger’s recognition absolutely deserved!
Honestly, I don’t know what’s going on, but when I started to read “Lighthousekeeping” by Jeanette Winterson again a few days ago (a novel that has the salty smell of the sea), all possible signs of the seaside come to me: somebody wants to take me for a journey to the old lighthouses, a friend starts to talk about “To The Lighthouse” by V. Woolf, and then I find this blog, full of sea majesty. Thank You for contributing to my madness and keep doing Your great job.
Your "google blogger of note" status is well deserved. Glad I found you - great photos - I'm a big animal lover. (P.S. My blog was blog of note back in Feb. - you will get so many wonderful visitors!) www.logcabininmichigan.blogspot.com
